Check your voter registration status. If you aren’t registered to vote in Nevada County, you can still register to vote in person at a vote center and cast your ballot.
Need curbside assistance? This service is available at the Rood Center by calling the Elections Office. Election workers will meet you at your car. “Curbside voting allows you to park as close as possible to the voting area. Elections officials will bring you a roster to sign, a ballot, and any other voting materials you may need, whether you are actually at a curb or in a car. All polling places and vote centers are required to be accessible to voters with disabilities and will have accessible voting machines” (source: CA Secretary of State).
Drop your ballot in a secure drop box
Drop boxes are located around Nevada County. You can fill out the ballot you received in the mail and drop it in one of those drop boxes. Each drop box has its own hours–some close as early as 5:00 p.m. The drop boxes that are available until 8:00 p.m. today are:
Grass Valley: BriarPatch Food Co-op, Gold Miners Inn, Grocery Outlet on Sutton Way, the Grass Valley SPD Market, and the Save Mart on Nevada City Hwy
Nevada City: The Rood Center
Penn Valley: Holiday Market on Pleasant Valley Road
South County: Holiday Market on Higgins Road
Truckee: Grocery Outlet on Donner Pass Road, Truckee Town Hall, and the Save Mart on Deerfield Drive
Mail your ballot
If you choose to mail your ballot, keep in mind that it must be postmarked on March 5th. You can take it to the post office before it closes today and ask specifically that it be postmarked with today’s date. You can also put it in any mailbox today before the last pickup of the day for that mailbox.
Learn about what’s on your ballot
Review official voter guides to learn about the candidates, propositions, and measures. Most if not all candidates have official statements that are published in the state and county voter guides. The California Secretary of State’s Voter Guide is online as is the Nevada County Voter Guide.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions
When in doubt, call the Elections Office! Your vote is too important to be guessing about the process. You can reach the Nevada County Registrar of Voters at 530-265-1298 or you can go in person to the Elections Office at the Rood Center at 950 Maidu Avenue.
Did you move from Nevada County and want to make sure a ballot isn’t being sent to you at your old address? You can request that your voter registration be canceled.
The California Secretary of State offers information for voters with disabilities and also describes the remote accessible vote-by-mail service.
