On Monday, August 21st, President Joe Biden visited Maui, Hawaii to tour areas devastated by the August 8th wildfires to comfort first responders and to pay respect to those who have died.

  • At least 114 people have died and over 388 are missing, making it the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history.

  • Maui County has filed lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric Industries, which supplies electricity to 95% of the State of Hawaii, alleging negligence amid poor weather conditions. That company’s market value has fallen 75% since the wildfire disaster, from $4 billion to $1 billion.

  • Representative Andy Ogles (R – TN) has accused Biden of falling asleep during the Maui wildfire press conference convened by the President and has called for Biden’s resignation.

  • Furious Hawaiians greeted President Joe Biden with signs telling him to go home and demanding more federal disaster relief, thirteen days after the devastating wildfires ravaged the area.

  • Biden is facing criticism for comments he made during his visit to Hawaii. He told a crowd of survivors that he “has a little sense” of what it’s like “to lose a home” after a small fire broke out in his kitchen in 2004.

  • President Joe Biden struggled to pronounce the names of local politicians and suggested he empathized with islanders because he almost lost his ’67 Corvette in a minor house fire.

  • Biden returned (from Hawaii) to his vacation at billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer’s $18 million lakefront mansion on Lake Tahoe.
