Heather Hadwick: A Leader Rooted in Community and Ready for Assembly

Family Values, Education, and Emergency Management Expertise

Heather Hadwick

In the heart of Northern California's District 1, Heather Hadwick emerges as a beacon of hope and leadership. With roots deeply planted in Siskiyou & Modoc County and a commitment to the well-being of her community, Heather is not just a candidate for the State Assembly – she's a dedicated advocate for the people.

Family Ties and Farming Heritage

Married for two decades to her high school sweetheart, Bryon, Heather is a proud mother of two boys, Sam and Zack. Sam, a freshman at Midland University in Nebraska, is studying Ag Business & Nonprofit Management on a shooting sports scholarship. Zack, a sophomore at Modoc High School, is actively involved in FFA, shooting, and golf. Her husband Bryon works in the Natural Resources sector as a District Conservationist. The Hadwick family run Hadwick Family Farm- raising hay, highland cattle and has Modoc county's only pumpkin patch. “We bring around 1500 kids through the farm every October on field trips to teach them about the importance of agriculture. Ag education is something our entire family is passionate about. We participate in Ag in the Classroom, host U-pick events and hosted an Agritourism workshop through the UCANR extension office.” Said Heather Hadwick.

Passion for Education and Community Empowerment

Heather's journey in education began with a major in Agriculture Science Education at Chico State. Her master's degree in Leadership and Management reflects her dedication to lifelong learning. Heather currently teaches a high school Public Safety elective course at Modoc High School. “I started this program four years ago when I was at the Sheriff's Office. I was blessed to be able to take the program with me.  We show students career pathways for Law, Fire, and OES (Office of Emergency Services) by bringing in speakers to talk about their jobs, get them certifications and the basics for them to put on their resume and find them mentors to help them along the way. The program was started to “grow our own” due to staffing shortages. It’s working, students have been hired right out of high school. This program would be easily modeled in other counties and could help us grow a resilient workforce in our rural areas.” Said Hadwick.

Emergency Management Expertise and Proactive Leadership

Heather's extensive work experience sets her apart in the race for Assembly. With a background as Deputy OES Director for Modoc County and a current role in Safety and Emergency Preparedness for schools at the Modoc County Office of Education, she has managed budgets, grants, and supervised the dispatch center. Her emergency management expertise shines through her involvement in wildfire incidents like the Bootleg, McKinney, Dixie, July Complex, as well as the Covid-19 Pandemic and more. Heather's proactive approach includes founding and leading the Modoc Resource Sustainability Group and the CA Small County OES Coalition, advocating for collaboration and best practices. Heather currently serves as the Inland Region Representative on CalOES State Emergency Management System (SEMS) Committee on Training, Exercises and Credentialing and the CalOES Emergency Management Mutual Aid (EMMA) SEMS Specialist Committee.

In her current position at Modoc County Office of Education, “I specialize in school safety; creating safety plans, vulnerability assessments, security updates, and training of staff and students. I’m also the Tobacco Use Prevention Education Director and have served on the Modoc County Tobacco Coalition Committee for 6 years.” Said Hadwick.  A certified ALICE instructor and serving as the County Community Schools Lead, Heather is ready to make change in Sacramento.

Champion for Natural Resources and Fire Insurance Advocate

Heather's love for Northern California fuels her commitment to protecting its natural resources. She advocates for better forest management, funding for mitigation projects, and cutting through bureaucratic red tape to be proactive rather than reactive in preventing wildfires. Recognizing the urgency of the fire insurance crisis in rural California, Heather prioritizes the protection of hardworking residents in District 1, challenging the shortcomings of the state's "Fair Plan" and addressing potential ripple effects. Heather will be making it her mission to fix the fire insurance crisis that is crippling our rural communities.

A Vision for a Better California

Heather's decision to run for Assembly stems from her love for District 1. With a focus on preserving conservative values, promoting the Republican party, and bringing people together, she envisions a California where residents can be proud of and protect our quality of life.
