Nevada County senior staff received pay increase during COVID at times exceeding $100,000. Currently, there’s no citizen oversight of county expenditures. Ordinary citizens are not allowed to attend the yearly budget sessions. Neither are citizens privy to negotiations in how salaries and pay raises are decided. Consequently, there’s no transparency in budget decision-making.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. deserves the admiration of a nation as one of its most influential leaders during the civil rights movement in the mid-20th century. In honor of his life and, in large part, the positive, Christian influence which he provided a nation during a most tumultuous era, we have made Dr. King’s birthday a national holiday.

In 2008 and upon the request of the supervisors, the Nevada County Grand Jury conducted an inquiry into compensation and benefits review for the board of supervisors and determined that the position of supervisor in Nevada County is a full-time position. Heidi Hall worked full-time as a supervisor during her tenure while also working for the job with the state at the same time.

Hren was an outstanding citizen who dedicated his life to making a positive difference in the world.

Given the high salaries of senior staff and elected officials, the tax-paying public is asking for increased action and better performance in meeting Board Objectives. A 40% chunk of the annual budget outlaid as payroll expense is unsustainable, especially in light of the impending downturn in state funding.

On December 14, 2023, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors unanimously opined that Rise Gold does not have a vested right in the Idaho-Maryland Mine. Following one entire day of public comment as well as the two hours of discussion prior to the vote, each supervisor voted to deny Rise Gold’s Vested Rights Petition filed with the County on September 2, 2023, setting up a likely court battle.
